About Us
Taíno Counseling was founded by Natalie “Nata” Montañez in 2024. As an Indigenous-Latine practitioner hailing from the Taíno heritage of Puerto Rico, Nata has crafted a practice deeply rooted in the spirit of the resilient Taíno people.
Named after the Taíno of the Caribbean, Taíno Counseling is a tribute to the indomitable spirit that endured despite the challenges faced by the Taíno people throughout colonization. Inspired by the resilience of her ancestors, Nata named her practice after her people as a way to commemorate the resilience she sees in her clients and the resilience she carries on in her lineage.
At Taíno Counseling, we recognize that resilience is not just a concept; it is a living force that echoes through the stories of the Taíno people and the diverse client populations we serve. Our practice is guided by a commitment to cultural diversity, strength, and individual empowerment. We understand that effective therapy must be intersectional and acknowledge the nuances in each person’s identity. We believe that there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy, and we tailor our processes to each client’s lived experience.
Whether you’re seeking to address pain from the past, marital issues, family dysfunction, or help for your child, Taino Counseling helps clients meet their goals with a compassionate and non-judgemental approach.
